MMIC
  1. Fred, Huei and Bob had a phone meeting with Todd Gaier and Charles Laurence on last Friday. Charles promised to bring the collaboration issue on the MMIC to the new Chief Scientist of JPL and see what he think.
  2. According to Russell's comment on the InP HEMT design, Huei's student has modified it accordingly and sent the layout back to AT last night. As for the AT wafer run in this July, Mal expects to get 20 chips back for us, and he thinks this will be a good start to get some experience in how to do it.
  3. Jeff got a quote from J & E procession concerning the cost of blocks on the MMIC amplifier for the UMass; it is about $170USD each for gold plated box. He will forward that quote to Paul.Jeff will contact Neil to find out what material they used and how they mount the chips, he will send the J & E address to Mal as well
  4. Mal says that the completion date for testing the GaAs mixer chips of Huei will be end of June.
  5. Regarding the sub-harmonic mixer packaging issue, Mingtang will take care this issue to get a quotation from J & E, and in the mean time he, Eugene and West continue working with the Chungshang Institute on quotation as well. Huei asks Paul to remind Bob to review the quote from Wise Wave Technology, Inc., he thinks we need to place order ASAP for prototype.
  6. Huei received a email from Paul Klintworth/ TRW, Klintworth expressed TRW's InP MMIC's cannot be re-exported by ASIAA on TRW's license, without the proper re-export authorization from the U.S.dept. of States. He suggests us to contact the TECRO in Washington, D.C. for advice on how to obtain a re-export license. He also concerned about our intentions regarding design efforts, design participants and how it relates to the contemplated agreement, and he wish to have this information from us.

Lag Correlator Hybrid
  1. Jeff says the substrates for the correlators will be shipped to him by this Friday, and then he will assemble and test them in a week or so. And he thinks they should be on time to get it done before the conference in Taipei, but they are two weeks delay on the delivery of those substrates.
  2. Regarding the Silicon Germanium, Huei's student C.S. Lien will present the design to CIC on this Saturday
  3. Regarding the suggested block diagram for the AMiBA prototype correlator, Warwick hasn't heard any suggestion back yet. He is still waiting to hear on that. Paul will remind Bob to conclude this issue and back to Warwick.

Receiver
  1. West says that currently he is working on the vacuum chamber layout design, and he hope to finish it in a week or so.
  2. Mal will talk to the person in charge of the far field range testing and near field range testing in AT, and back to us by next week.
  3. Eugene says that he has tested the repaired mixer back from Specek; the test result is quite close with specification of supplier. Its conversion loss is 6~11 dB in 85~105 GHz, and Lo pumping without bias on mixer is 17 dBA. He thinks in the future we may need to upgrade those mixers with bias.

IF/LO
  1. Eugene has measured the power performance of the local oscillator amplifiers of 42 GHz by power meter, and he found the test result meet with the requirement for prototype receiver.
  2. Eugene has been sending back the incorrect parts controller and laser head one by one to the manufacturer for repairing and adjustment.
  3. Regarding the piezo electric crystal feed back loop for LO phase switching, Eugene got some rough calculation result, if we can control the temperature variation on optical fiber with one degree C per hour, then we will have a phase variation about 30 degree per second, and this phase variation is already low enough with the control range of phase lock circuit. So he thinks by using the piezo electric crystal feed back loop to stabilize the phase against the temperature variation is feasible. In the following week, he will try to define that configuration in detail.
