  1. Regarding the HPF purchasing issue, Eugene says that Leo got the response from Quinstar. They agree the price for the first 4 unite is $4,000USD, and for the rest of 38 units is $7,760USD. But Leo found there are some discrepancy between their offer and our specs, Loe will ask Quinstar to clarify
  2. As for purchasing the InP HEMT & HBT MMIC foundry run from TRW, we will get NDA document signed and send it back to TRW
  3. Mal says that he got response from TRW about using the InP HEMT & HBT MMIC chips on the multipliers for prototype lag correlator and on the post amplifiers for prototype receiver, we need to apply another export license. Mal will contact the US consulate in Australia and explorer what to do
  4. Huei says that according Todd Gaier's information, it seems not as easy as we expect to use JPL's chip design on the InP HEMT & HBT MMIC wafer.Jeff suggests that we should try to get a small self-grant in support collaboration with AMiBA. Because once we have a self-grant, then we come in the door and will get approval very quickly. Fred agrees this suggestion and asks Jeff go ahead to do it, Fred will talk to Jeff and Huei in detail right after this meeting.
  5. Huei asks Jeff talk to Neal Ericson/UMass in order to get the layout of w-band LNA, Jeff agrees to try. This layout will be a reference for receiver layout design
  6. Fred says that doing all the testing and putting together things in Hawaii will help a lot, because we don't need ship back and forth between US and here, and thatˇ¦s means we need to get a space to set up a lab in Hawaii. He asks Mingtang to list out what we need; how much space? What kind of instrument? And see what we can do. Mingtang had some idea, he will write out while he back here
  7. Eugene re-tested three of the Spacek's amplifier, two of them had a better gain and similar with our specs. And the other one has been sent back to Spacek for thorough adjustment
  8. Eugene thinks that the Russian firm probably is unable to quote the HPF according the drawing which designed by Mal and his colleague. He will provide drawings to the Chungshang Institute, and try to get their offer. He thinks the Quinstar is the most possible source to provide HPF for our prototype needs
  9. As to packaging the Sub-harmonic mixer, Eugene will get all drawings together and send them to the Chungshang Institute, and ask them to try. Huei thinks we can do the simulation at Taida without problem, the only thing he concerns is fabrication and assembly. So Mal will help Eugene to finalize the packaging design through fax and email
  10. Bob &Paul have discussed the work package with Huei, Eugene, T. H. and Ray, Paul will follow up to update them accordingly.

Lag Correlator Hybrid
  1. Warwick says that in the last few days, they have been doing some measurement of low frequency, low noise output on the Gilbert Cell multiplier of InP one. And unfortunately they found a terrible low frequency noise performance, and this increase over all system noise by a significant margin and getting beyond a practical limit. So the conclusion is, Warwick thinks as to this particular design, the InP is not a right material for Gilbert Cell multiplier. Huei will provide a noise measurement data one the InP HBT of TRW to Warwick. Fred says that we need to have a fairly intensive exchange of email, information and idea off line on this issue how to overcome this fundamental problem with device
  2. Regarding the GaAs HBT chip from WIN, Huei says that he will send this chip to Warwick in a couple of says. Warwick will do the noise measurement quickly on this chip once receive it
  3. Jeff says that in particular they have not that equivalent measurement to that one Warwick reported on, and they try to do that before he return to Antarctica. He discovers they need the low noise pre-amplifier to get down low level they needed to make measurement. In the mean while, they are using some 1 to 20GHz broadband amplifiers to get the low noise level going to their mixer, and those failed while Warwick reports. But if this is a high priority, he can get the amplifier fixed quickly and send it back to Stanford in a few weeks to get the measurement done. For such critical measurement they need a people as Warwick done, and see where they stand with mixer, and till they do that they really can't say whether they can do better. Warwick says that they did a measurement also on a silicon Gilbert Cell multiplier with a 3 GHz HP commercial device, and they have a corner frequency 30 ~ 40 Hz. And that might be also an indication what might achieve, the camellia is probably also fine with the mixer. Warwick and Jeff will discuss this issue further after reviewing the measurement data. Fred will also talk to Jeff more about this issue right after this meeting.

Receiver
  1. Mingtang says he had a lot of discussion with Mal about receiver design during his visit in AT, he will summarize a report and talk to us later on
  2. Regarding ˇ§ worm horn conceptˇ¨ & ˇ§30cm horn-leans antenna conceptˇ¨ which proposed by Jeff, Bob suggests Mingtang and Mal look carefully into feed-horn design and make recommendation what we should do. Jeff suggests to make a extension for one of Mingtangˇ¦s feed horn design, and just testing on it and let comparison to the cassagrin which for prototype, and make decision for us. Mal thinks the other important issue is the cost. Jeff will get a quote on the 30cm horn-lens, and figure out its weight as well
  3. Regarding the modeling on the circular polarization, a Mal will send a report around to everyone to look.
  4. Regarding the calculation program for the whole system, Mingtang and Leo will take care of it and work out something for Bob. Mal will also provide a calculation table.

IF/LO
  1. Regarding the over-order fiber laser system, Warwick will directly contact the supplier to buy it
  2. Eugene will propose an alternative for the optical fiber.
  3. Regarding the optical amplifier, Eugene says it is very difficult to find the required amplifier from any company, so he plans to add some gain on the LO amplifier in the individual module on the receive side and drop out the optical amplifier, and then see what effect on the LO phase noise and the performance of power level, he will discuss this issue with John as well.
  4. Eugene says that Leo proposed to buy two pieces of frequency triple as a back up for the LO source, and its unit price is $3.000USD, and we only need two pieces. Mingtang says that he has talked with T.H. about a possible alternative to the prototype oscillator source, and T.H. has already had a LO operating at 14 GHz with a tripler in his lab. Bob asks Eugene to summarize together what cost would be and time scale for the whole photonic LO system.

Platform/Mount/Dishes
  1. As for the mount, Bob says that the telecon with Vertex has been put off a week
  2. Bob talked to the dish maker ˇV CMA in yesterday, they are moving along smoothly. As for the large dishes, he will collect drawings and send them around to everyone to look
  3. Mike has spoken to the Sydney Engineering Co. about the drawing and specs, he will go over with them in details.
  4. The Chungshang Institute is still studying on the specs and drawing of platform & mount, Paul will follow up to see if they have any question on that.
