MMIC- W- Band InP HEMT LNA

1. Regarding the Sub Hamonic Mixer¡¦s chip test at ATNF, Mal says the target date to do that test should be

in the end of this month.

2. Huei says that the first design for the InP HEMT MMIC is ready, and now is waiting for the wafer test

data from JPL. Todd told him that he needs two weeks more to work out that test data. Fred says he will

visit Pasadena in a week time. So Huei will inform Todd about Fred visit and ask him to arrange an

appointment with the person in NASA who is responsible for the export license approval.

3. As for the 0.1um GaAs HEMT, Huei says they will finish the layout touch up and send the chip out to

TRW by Oct. 20. Eugene says he just finishes the final layout last night; he will give it to Huei to review.

4. As to the export license application for the InP HEMT of TRW, Huei says Joyce told him that the review

process is still ongoing at the State Department He is expecting to get a final decision on that issue by

 early November.

5. Wave-guide filter ¡V Huei received some experiment data from Mal by fax, Mal will provide some

drawings to Huei as well, and Huei will forward those data and drawings to Prof. Wu. This would be a

good reference to Prof. Wu to develop his design in parallel. (Mal is modifying the existing design of 80

GHz to 85 GHz as we need.) As for the prototype receivers, Mal suggests Mingtang to investigate if he

can find the required filters in the market.

6. Regarding the purchasing for the 4 units of 82~106 GHz amplifiers from NRAO, J. Webber's secretary

told us that the export license application is under reviewing by the Export Bureau smoothly without

problem. She asks us to release the purchase order to NRAO ASAP.

7.Mal says that he received a reminder the wafer is back this week, the plan is to test more chips in the   next couple of weeks. All the hardware of the amplifiers blocks in completed, so he expects to start to test that w-band InP LNA chips sometime by end next week. So he hopes to work out some test results in three weeks.

8.Huei says Specek inform him that the amplifiers they made have some deviations with the required specs. Mal and Warwick think those deviations seem within an acceptable tolerance and may not serious influence the design criteria of the whole system, but we should ask Specek to improve such defects further. Huei will contact Specek to find a solution.

Lag Correlator Hybrid

1.   Jeff says he did some simulation on the wire attenuator and alumina, he sent over some simulation data to Warwick by email a couple minutes ago. The next step is to see the noise of mixers, he is ordering a couple of amplifiers to fit in the two independent noise signals to mixers, and then to watch what the noise of the output, and what is the offset. And mean while he is working on making the 16 lag correlators.

2.   Warwick says that the HBT Gilbert Cell multiplier wafer has come back from TRW, and has been tested at this moment, so should have that result soon. As to the lag correlator built from commercial parts is starting to go.

3.   Paul, Eugene and Leo will go to see the "Taitronic Exhibition" and visit the ACX Company's booth as well this afternoon.

4.   As to the design work for prototype, Warick says it¡¦s coming together, he got one element going and the secondary one at this moment, he is calculating on that, and putting on the other, signaling them and see how they are going.

5.   Ray Wei says he has simplified the circuit and also completed the simulation for the IC circuit. There are some problem about the frequency mismatch between master PLL and slave VCO, so is trying to solve these problems. After that he will start to design the digital part.

6. Huei says that they just finish the design work on the Gilbert Cells Multiplier, but it probably would not  meet with the design goal, and right now they are preceding the touch up stage, and it will be sent out in 2 or 3 weeks. In the mean time, he is studying the HBT design, because

they have another run for the GaAs HEMT by late Dec. So he hopes to get some experience on the HBT

design also.

7.Warwick says he has been talking to Prof. Chiueh about the packing process for prototype; he has a regular contact with Prof. Chiueh. He will forward the communication he have Prof. Chiueh to

Paul. So Paul can keep on tracking these things.

Receiver

1. Mingtang inputs a draft receiver layout on his web page, the signal entrance and the height of the main

chamber is not decided yet. Leo is working on the component arrangement with him. As to the

interface between receiver and mount, Bob will sent a platform layout drawing to Mingtang by next

  week.

2. Yugene says he only got a sheet of specs from the Atlantic Microwave Company about the OMT, they only guarantee the band width of 94~96 GHz. Bob suggests Yugene that he should talk to NRAO people about the OMT while he visiting there. Bob will follow up that as well.

Platform/mount/dishes

1.Bob will send over a draft layout for mount and dishes to everyone in a week or two after.

2.Jeff doesn¡¦t think the caesarian could work with the 30cm antenna due to its high ground pick up. He

will do some quantitative analysis to demonstrate this case.

3.Regarding the height of ground shield for our antenna, Bob requests Michael to ask their expert to verify what size are good for us.

Prototype Specification and Project Book

1. He got some contribution receiving drawings last day or two, we he will incorporate all of these into a

revised draft, he will send it to Fred and Paul by the end of week. As a center source of all

documentation there, and that is what has to be worked with others for further contribution on all

chapters. Fred will take over the question with.

2. Bob and Fred asks Michael, Ravi and Bob to take a close look at some technical related science issues,

e.g. UV coverage with current design on platform and drift scanning techniques, observation strategy and

 photonic delay line.

3. Philippe's student generates some of layout drawings for dish, Paul will put them on web site for

  everyone to look at.
