MMIC- W- Band InP HEMT LNA

  1. The Sub Hamonic Mixer’s chip test result at ATNF is not as good as the design goal of H. Wang, M. the next step is to test the device, and investigate the module to find out the problem.
  2. The designing work for GaAs 0.1 um PHEMT at Taida will be finished in the mid September, H. Wang said that after touching up (around three weeks) he will send it to TRW for manufacturing, and finish it in the middle of 2001. As to the time scale for the critical MMIC components, H. Wang will go through the proposed work plan with P. Shaw after this meeting.
  3. H. Wang is going to send the update design goal of MMIC components to M. Sinclair for review and comment. Mal agrees to feed back his comment before the next meeting.
  4. Todd Gaier is going to check whether he can loan us two module of LNA from JPL lab without applying an export license. Currently they have 50 module in their lab. On the condition, if the module works they have the right to us it. So he is going to check whether he can put on the technical free right as well. As to the testing and packaging, Todd said that if we can get the free right on that wafer, they may help us to test and to package it, since JPL has all test equipment H. Wang will keep on following up this issue with Todd.
  5. There is nothing new from NRAO about the formal quotation for the 82~106 GHz amplifiers, B. Martin will follow up to find out the

Status of NRAO.

Lag correlator hybrid

  1. For the 17 lag correlator, J. Peterson is still waiting a report from Gramic, which probably need a week more to get it. He did a idea, he
  2. will write and email about for B. Martin and W. Wilson to consider the possibility way to revise the Tree Structure of design , to get

more advantage. He asks everybody to look around and to discuss it in the next week.

  3. W. Wilson is still waiting on work the TRW wafers, when received the wafers, he will test them. Currently he is designing the lag correlator by using the commercial chips, to get an experience on that work.
  4. For the Gilbert Cell Multiplier spec, H. Wang reminds J. Peterson to generate a specification to help S.S. Shen and his student to design that amplifier. He also asks W. Wilson to give his comment on that spec. He hopes to read and to discuss their inputs in the next week.
  5. P. Shaw will send an email to T.D. Chiueh asking him to join the weekly meeting through the teleconference call, or through other substitute way.

Receiver

M. Sinclair said that M. Kesteven is still away in Manchester, he has nothing to report for this week. He might be back in a week or two.

Mal spoke to Graham Johns; he is an antenna export. He is quite happy to take on that small project. When M. Kesteven back, he will talk more deeply with Graham to exam the problem, and to get something rolling with our specification.

System network

H. C. Lu got the spreadsheet from George Gross; he just did try error to see if the overall system noise is still good or not. The spread sheet form George is only consider the gain of each stage. H. C. Lu and Yugene will carefully study the calculation for the whole system network.

Work plans

P. Shaw will coordinate with each responsible person to generate a work plan respectively, collecting and distributing them to everybody

for review and comment through email.

LO/IF

  1. H.C. Lo and Y.J. Hwang said that in whole September and early October will be good for their travelling to NRAO, B. Martin agrees to

talk with J. Payne to settle it. Bob reminds Lio and Yugene to set up a plan , including what you want to accomplish when you are there,

also what components you need, you should bring with you. Lio said they already ordered a photonic mixer, the target delivery date is in

this September. So they will bring it with them to NRAO and test it at NRAO’s lab. For the other laser components, they are looking for

some catalogues from suppliers to check out what might be useful for us. They will write down the first try components we need to

order before they go to NRAO. So they can discuss it with J. Payne to finalize the components list. When they come back , they can start

to purchase them immediately.

2. B. Martin said that in this early November, there will be a Photonic LO Meeting held by Nobeyama and NRAO in Tucson, it would be

good to join there, particularly Yugene and Lio.

3.B. Martin said that he heard more noise about the background and cross-talk problem from Manchester, it appears more and more

argument to go with the traditional separates elements rather than the common platform approach. If we go that, we have to do something very different. It appears that we should go with the fiber optics, and find someway to build the delay tracks. J. Payne has a same idea on that too. As a result, the IF components really should not be ordering, held on for a while. Bob suggests somebody start looking at a possible fiber optics IF components. W. Wilson said that they have been looking in this problem a little bit on their own purpose to compare LO what wide band links there, so it could be some parallel develop there. Warwick said we could get the components to sort out the 20GHz bandwidth, there are not cheap but are available. Warwick agrees to make a summary of a survey on the available components for the photonic LO system, he will send it to Yugene and distribute to everybody. The delay line is a complete new issue for us; it will effect the system network, including system calculation, system diagram, cost and prototype, etc.
